Alright, so let me start off saying probably the most important thing about this since I bought an old used game: I got this thing mailed to me in damn near perfect condition and I'd say that alone is extremely impressive.
As for the actual game itself, I've played the whole trilogy and I can say in my opinion, the second is the best out of all of them. It shrinks down the maps of each part of the world you can explore, but it makes up for it by giving you the same areas but in the dark dimension.
Just the fact that you travel back and forth between light and dark aether is brilliant. Best way I could put that in perspective is if you've ever played a silent hill game and you've traveled back and forth between the real normal world and the dark one, same concept.
There's so many impressive factors, the usefulness of your visors giving you extra interaction throughout the game, the new upgrades, the logic that your dark beam annihilates anything in the normal dimension and vice versa, New upgrades for more interaction, noticeably better graphics, the wonderful and honestly really frustrating at times challenge of trying to fight a boss in the dark dimension but losing health constantly because the atmosphere alone can kill you don't worry, you get upgrades that make it do less damage and eventually you can walk through taking no damage at all.
In the meantime, just try to jump from safe zone to age zone. I think the funniest thing you'll think while playing this game - because in the beginning, the dark dimension enemies steal your powers - is you'll be fighting a " guardian " that has your power and the game puts you on the other end and you get to see what that feels like.
What I always said is Dammit, why can't I use it like that!! They'll kick your butt a few times, and let me give you a warning before you go breaking things: the boost guardian is arguably the toughest boss in the game. The developers couldn't beat it with ease unless they were in debug mode, so when you get there know you're in for one hell of a fight. Phenomenal I'd say, and arguably the best game in the prime series. And for anyone who's wondering, no- you don't need to play the first one to understand or appreciate this.
So many of the reviews of this game focus on the fact that this is essentially another round of what the original Metroid Prime had to offer, but this is misleading. Metroid Prime was a beautiful recreation of the previous Metroid world in a 3D, first-person perspective world - it was more or less Super Metroid in a new format. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, on the other hand, is everything Retro Studios really wanted to offer - the game that can exist now that the original Prime has served as a bridge between the old Metroid world and the new.
This is not to say the game strays from the Metroid style; it simply moves the Metroid world forward, something which hasn't happened to this series in all too long. The enemies, powerups, locations, and gameplay are more interesting. The graphics are richer and more vibrant. The plot is deeper and more significant. The final product is more compelling. Basically everything has been improved in at least some small, subtle way. You'll see how much more flushed out the game is the first time you reach the all-morphball-combat boss fight.
This is just one example of the intelligent, challenging variety offered by Prime 2: echoes. This intelligence in game design is shown again the way each area becomes so much easier to traverse as you gain powerups. This was executed with much more skill than in the original, making backtracking less of a hassle. The scanning system has also been improved significantly with a more graphically pleasing and less cumbersome color coded system. Overall all of the more tiresome elements of the original prime have been mitigated if not completely corrected.
Add to all of this the inclusion of the Screw Attack wonderfully executed, though later perfected in Prime 3: Corruption which was absent from the original Prime. Tapping the B button that third time and watching Samus slip out into third person is a true pleasure - and there is a creative, new underwater twin to this ability too which you will find earlier in the game. A multiplayer option is also present, but should be treated as a fun, unimportant extra - it isn't groundbreaking but sure doesn't hurt the game either, and hey, we were all wondering where it was in Prime 1 anyway, so stop complaining.
All told I love where the developers went with this game. I've never written an Amazon review before but felt this game deserved a clear statement of its superiority to the original Metroid Prime. Highly recommended. I'm beginning a collection of old video games that I used to play when I was younger, and Metroid Prime 2 was one of those games that I owned but never really got into because I thought it was too difficult and I had other, admittedly more enjoyable games to play.
So, finding a copy of the game in this condition was an outstanding discovery. The product arrived much faster than I thought it would, and it works like a charm! True to the description, the disc is in very good condition. Even the case is in terrific condition for a nearly two decades-old game. Truly an amazing find, and I will definitely keep my eyes peeled for this seller again as I look to expand my collection in the coming months.
Thanks again for allowing the opportunity to take the fight to the battered world of Aether once again! See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. Metroid Prime is my personal favourite game ever made.

Unfortunately, the new weapons are nothing more than essentially renamed versions of some of the old beams.
However, with a strongly polar element in the light and dark enemies that you'll fight, they're important more to both fighting and use of the environment. We should now address how Metroid Prime 2: Echos breaks down. The same. That said, it seems to pack in some nicely complex designs, and while it does reuse some character styles, it presents them in new ways. Audio is just as good as ever, this time blending new soundtrack into the old soundtrack.
Although this game is improved in both character and stage design, it is in many ways the same old Metroid Prime again. It's a good game, however, just like the original Metroid Prime, and if anything, it's only true weakness is the fact that it's too much like the old game, and doesn't feature quite enough innovation. Still, I'm happy that Metroid Prime has had such a good sequel. Browse games Game Portals. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. Install Game. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. Metroid Prime is my personal favourite game ever made. Retro did a magnificent job of taking the Metroid series and spinning it in a different direction while still maintaining what is inherently 'Metroid' about Metroid. It still looks excellent to this day and plays magnificently. So when Echoes came out, I bought it day one without needing to think about it. Echoes tries to add a few new elements to Prime's make-up.
What's so different is how the Dark and Light beams can be used to interact with the environment of the planet Samus finds herself on this time, Aether, in that crystals scattered around can be super charged with light energy to repel dark creatures or smothered in darkness to harm Space Pirates chancing it in the dark world.
The addition of ammunition required to fuel these beams adds an extra level of strategy to what you do - Running low on Light ammo will make you think about whether to super charge a light crystal and draw enemies to it or try to fight them long range and kill them quickly The dark and light sides to Aether are enjoyable to explore, rewarding you with power-ups if you seek them out As you might expected.
The lore is still fascinating to read up on through the use of the Scan visor too. It's pretty much more of the excellent first game with some changes to make things a little fresh, giving another of the best single player experiences you can have on a Gamecube. My only qualms, as is with most that played Echoes, are the difficulty and the poor multiplayer mode.
